I should save this for Tuesday but
I love how racism is okay on Glee. Everyone is up in arms because Rachel says “I never got Micheal Jackson.” But that Warbler kid is like “Santana all you’re relatives are in prison and my rich father can bring you all the pinatas you need.” Everyone is just cool with it.
The only times you just have to let racism go are: If the person being racist is over 70 (This only works for a few more years), You are on xbox live, or you are me trying to shop at Benetton (That was utter bullshit by the way. Once in a store my mom was spelling something and the lady said “N as in nigger?”)
No it’s kind of never really okay but Glee thinks it’s totally cool.
Sigh. wtf fandom? wtf glee?
actually there are quite a few people that are not cool with it. at all.
Except no. What the hell? This post doesn’t even make any sense. Why is it okay to let it go sometimes? You mean you can’t be mad at racism on x-box live? Why? Because you expect it? Because you can’t stop it? What?
And why do we let it go when it’s older people? I’d let it go if was the way they use some words, but aren’t the younger generations supposed to learn from the older? I understand times change, but part of life is changing with them.
And I know you used it as an example, but I’m still slightly squicked out that you actually spelled out the n word.
There are many kinds of racism and I think the point of Sebastian being racist is that he’s a douchebag. It’s not an admirable character who’s being racist; it’s not someone the fandom’s looking up to as a role model. If anything, Glee’s saying, “Don’t be racist or people will think you’re a doucebag.” That’s why no one gives a shit that he said that. Because everyone is in on the fact that he’s an asshole.
And people are mad about Rachel because there are a lot of sensitive fucks on the internet. I don’t see it being racist, but I can see people caring because Michael Jackson’s music was iconic. His songs had personal meanings for people and that’s why they’re offended. Or they’re just being unreasonable.
